Natural Born Learner 3
(Friday)
This week, we reminded ourselves just how easy it is for us to learn — how natural it is for you to learn.
From the moment you were born, you began using all of your senses to learn. You are, by nature, an excellent learner.
You've already learned to speak and read a language. This is no small feat, especially considering you did it without any prior knowledge of grammar, syntax, or vocabulary!
So, even if you're currently struggling with a particular subject in school or learning at a different pace than your classmates, don’t let it discourage you. More importantly, don’t let it shake your confidence in your ability to learn. You'll need that confidence when you enter the workplace!
Remember: you are, and always have been, a natural-born learner.
To continue building confidence in your ability to learn, try to notice how enjoyable it is to learn something of your choosing—something you are interested in or passionate about.
Look for ways to connect what you learn in school to potential careers, jobs, or industries you may pursue in the future.
What subjects in school might be useful or come in handy if you want to work as:

A carpenter, welder, plumber, architect, or engineer?

A programmer or coder for web and mobile applications?

A photographer, videographer, writer, or director?

An EMT, fireman or policeman?

An illustrator, graphic designer, UI designer, or advertiser?

An automotive mechanic, technician, or engineer?
Connected learning combines personal interests, supportive relationships, and opportunities.
Self-directed learning is similar to connected learning in that both are driven by the learner. In both self-directed and connected learning, learners thrive and realize their full potential.

STEPS FOR CHANGE
-
Learning came naturally to you as a child. You were naturally curious, which led to self-directed learning. You have the same brain now as you did then. So you can be confident you can learn anything you choose if you put your mind to it.
-
Not just the subjects and situations that make learning enjoyable, but notice all the different ways you learn outside of class. Take up a new hobby or learn a new skill. Keep learning enjoyable.
-
Our school system requires us to learn at the pace of the class. Learning follows a schedule, not one based on each student’s individual learning style or speed. Don’t develop a negative view of the learning process. You might not always love school, but learn to love learning! Learning is for life.
Thought of the day.
A true teacher would never tell you what to do.
Never Forget
Always remember that you possess an exceptional brain and a powerful mind, which you can continue to strengthen through regular exercise. Reflect on the remarkable things your brain has already accomplished and how your innate curiosity continues to drive your learning of new subjects and skills that fascinate you.
Remember, successful individuals have a passion for learning. Are you passionate about something? Do you aspire to be successful? Successful people love to learn. Will you be successful?
