Natural Born Learner 3

(Friday)

This week we reminded ourselves just how easy it is for us to learn. How natural it is for you to learn.

From the moment you were born, you began to use all of your senses to learn. You are naturally a very good learner.

You have already learned how to speak and read a language. This is no easy task, especially since you learned how to speak and read without having any knowledge of grammar, syntax, or vocabulary!

So even if you currently have a difficult time with a particular subject in school, or you may learn at a different pace than others in your class, don’t let it discourage you. More importantly, don’t let it affect your confidence in your ability to learn. You will need that confidence when you enter the workplace!

Remember: you are, and always have been, a natural-born learner.

To continue to build confidence in your ability to learn, try to notice how enjoyable it is to learn something of your choosing - something that you are interested in or passionate about.

Look for ways to connect what you learn in school to possible careers, jobs, or industries you may pursue in the future.

What subjects in school might be useful, or come in handy if you want to work as:

Connected learning combines personal interests, supportive relationships, and opportunities.

Self-directed learning is similar to connected learning in that it is driven by the learner themselves. With both self-directed and connected learning, learners flourish and realize their true potential.

STEPS FOR CHANGE

  • Learning came naturally to you as a child. You were naturally curious which led to self-directed learning. You have the same brain now as you did then. So you can be confident you can learn anything you choose if you put your mind to it.

  • Not the subjects and situations that make learning enjoyable. Notice all the different ways you learn outside of class. Take up a new hobby, or learn a new skill. Keep learning enjoyable.

  • Our school system requires us to learn at the pace of the class. Learning is on a schedule not based on each student’s learning style or speed. Don’t develop a negative view of the learning process. You might not always love school. But learn to love learning! Learning is for life.

Thought of the day.

A true teacher would never tell you what to do.

Never forget.

Always remember that you possess an exceptional brain and a mighty mind, which you can further strengthen through regular exercise. Recall the remarkable things your brain has already accomplished and how your innate curiosity continues to drive your learning of new subjects and skills that fascinate you.

Remember, successful individuals have a passion for learning. Are you passionate bout something? Do you aspire to be successful? Successful people love to learn. Will you be successful?
