Influencer Types 1.2

(Wednesday)

Consider

  • This week your assignment is to understand who and what influences you, and

  • How you are influenced by various sources.

Why it’s important: Highly successful people are extremely aware of and careful with the people they surround themselves with. But even inanimate sources, like movies, music, and social media can influence your decisions and emotions. This in turn can greatly impact your actions and mindset.

In addition, the choice of one or more role models can greatly increase your chances of becoming successful and achieving what you want in both work and life.

Primer Questions

  1. If you hesitate to choose a role model, why do you think that is?

  2. Does fear of not measuring up prevent you from choosing a role model?

  3. Is it easier for you to choose a role model that you personally know? Or one that is in the public eye (Instagram, News, Youtube, etc) that you don’t personally know?

Write down your answers and observations in your journal.

Individuals who are exposed to ethical role models as children will learn ethical behavior: behavior that facilitates their growth as ethical persons with the characteristics that can help them to become ethical leaders in the workplace.

ROLE MODELS: Choose wisely. How?

You can choose a role model by what he or she has accomplished. Do you admire the fame and popularity they have? Do you admire the wealth and material prosperity of that person? Or do you admire what they’ve done to help others? Or their accomplishments with innovations and discoveries that benefit others?

What is your role model known for? For always getting their way? To win at all costs? Or is your role model known for other qualities like being reasonable, calm under pressure, tolerant, understanding, and courageous

It’s important that you understand why you want to imitate or be influenced by someone you know and admire. It’s important to understand how that person impacts others since you will be trying your best to follow in that person’s footsteps.

Be very clear about what it is you admire about a person, and even more importantly why you want to emulate that person.

In your journal write down exactly why you’ve chosen your role model(s), and what effect their influence will have on you as a person.

Metacognitive Assignment Review

How are you doing?

This week’s assignment is to become hyper-aware of who influences you, and how. Make sure you are becoming very clear about who in your day-to-day life has an impact on how you think and act.

You come into contact with many different people throughout the day. There may be many different people who have some measure of influence on you.

Who influences you most? Who influences you that you may not have realized influences you in one way or another?

Did you know?

The silent influencer

Each year people are spending more and more time online, most often with their phones. With technology and especially phones, silent influence is ubiquitous.

We’d like you to take a hard look at the music you listen to, movies you watch, games you play and the social media apps you use. All of these can influence you, in both positive and negative ways.

Why? A lot of people waste their time adopting attitudes, mindsets, traits, biases, qualities, and viewpoints from these silent influencers that will negatively impact their ability to perform at a high level in the workplace and in life.

So take a little time to ask yourself, “How does my social media make me feel about myself?”, or “Does the music I listen to impact the way I view others?”

This is probably the only time you’ll take a close look at how social and other media impact you. Take an honest, open look, and make the most of it.

NOTE: Journaling is something you can and should be doing each day, even if you only spend one or two minutes writing down thoughts about what you observed about yourself or became aware of.

Thought of the day.

Focus on yourself. You are enough. Become the best version of yourself.
